What will happen if you shoot a bullet in space?
To understand this topic we need go back in 1965 . When two Russian cosmonauts went in to space and while returning to earth due to technical issues their space craft landed 1000 km away from the landing spot in Syberian forests.
Fortunately,after some days they were rescued by the rescue team
After this incident Russia space agency launced TP-28 Triple barrel pistol and started sending with their cosmonauts.
If this incident happens again these gun can be used to lit fire , giving signals to rescue team and can also be used to save themselves from wild animals.
But what will happen if we use this gun in space ??
Does the bullet works exactly the same in space as it works on earth ??
▪️ First of all we need to focus on 2 things
1. Gun : Every gun has a air -chamber in it because when you fire a bullet , the barrel of the gun gets too heat up that it releases smoke , and it is absorbed by the air chamber and it doesn't allow gun to heat up.
2. Bullet : A bullet travels at a speed of 500m/s . Due to earth's Air resistance after 500 m the bullet gradually slows down and earth's gravitational force pulls the bullet down.
A bullet fired in an open space travels in vaccum that means no Air resistance acts on the bullet
Secondly , also we know universe is expanding 73km/s
Keeping this 2 points in our mind we can conclude that bullet fired in an open space will never stop it continuously keeps moving forward at the direction fired . The bullet stops only when it collides with any obstacle.
Can you imagine that bullet fired in open space can kill you.
When you are strucked in planets orbit and revolving it.
And in this situation if u fire a bullet then the bullet will also starts revolving the planet. If you remain in the same position for a certain time then the bullet will hit you on your back .
